UniFi Warehouse Network Investigation & Remediation
Remote diagnosis and remediation of a warehouse UniFi network — two offline access points, a mesh fallback nobody knew was active, and 2.4GHz contention.
Overview
A warehouse operator's UniFi wireless network was experiencing patchy coverage and unreliable connectivity for handheld scanners and other floor equipment. I diagnosed and remediated the issue entirely remotely, working with the UK-based on-site team.
The Challenge
Two U6 LR access points had gone offline, and — without anyone realising — the network had silently fallen back to wireless mesh backhaul for part of the site. That fallback masked the real problem: it kept devices connected, just badly, which made the symptoms confusing to read from the outside. On top of that, 2.4GHz channel contention was degrading throughput for legacy devices still using that band.
What I Built
I audited the UniFi controller remotely, identified the two offline access points and traced why the mesh backhaul had silently activated, then worked out a 2.4GHz channel plan to reduce contention. Rather than just fixing it and moving on, I wrote a formal report for the on-site team — what was wrong, why it happened, what I changed, and what to watch for — so they had a clear record and a prioritised list of next steps they could act on themselves.
Outcome
Both access points were brought back onto wired backhaul, coverage stabilised, and the on-site team had a documented, prioritised action list instead of a vague "it's fixed" message.
